Waist - 102.5 (106)-3.5cm
Chest - 107 (109) -2.0cm
Weight - 89.4 (92) -2.6kg
(Morning, before breakfast, before workout)
Actually went shopping today, and the first time I think In Japan I found a pair of shorts that fitted, and XL was actually loose around the waist. L size fitted OK but a wasn't much room to move. So I went with the L's hoping that they will fit nice within a few more weeks.
This worries me a bit specifically with my work shirts and suits, could be up for a big bill at the end of this 90 days if the current trends continue. Nothing worse than seeing someone swimming in their clothes, makes it look like they were big brother hand me downs, and I was already somewhat approaching this with the weight I had lost since December.
Lets see what happens but I think I will hang on until the end of the 90 days a least before heading out clothes shopping again!

Day 15 - Shopping day
Got sick of shopping every day, and took advantage of the day off today to go to the farmers market to stock up on everything I need, hoping a week would be possible with the amount I got. Hope it lasts without going bad, but managed to squeeze it all into the fridge and freezer. Then spent a good hour cutting stuff up and stashing it in bags. After doing this it seems it doesn't matter how much I cut it disappears quickly. Also noticed the amount of rubbish im putting out doesn't really align with my garbage collection only being 2 times a week. Might need to plan that a little better moving forward.
Did my workout in the afternoon today, had to catch up since i had a long sleep in, first for a number of weeks which obviously left me trying to catch up on the meals through the day as well.
It seems I have now been consistently below 90kg for 3 days straight now, fluctuating about +-1kg between morning and mid afternoon before, and now managing to stay below 90 throughout the day...a good sign. I think in general im probably down 2-3kg overall. Switched my scales since my first weigh in as they were really inconsistent so hard to tell. Over xmas I started a 2 month program and my target was to get below 90kg, which I didnt manage to do (although the starting weight was much higher than I started PCP at)
For dinner I did go a little off plan, had a birthday to celebrate...and a dinner for 2 to have, but that went suprisingly well and I think I got close to my target measurements for the meal, and snuck in 2 glasses of red as well...(tolerance is definately down - that went straight to my head)
In general feeling good and im definately noticing changes to my body with weight shift to and from the right places, and whats even better is other people are starting to comment as well. Funny enough the only place I cant see is where most of the comments are targeted at...must be the squats!

Day 13 - getting innovative
Through desperation comes innovation! Was getting really bored with the foods I was cooking up, partly due to the fact I was away from home and didn't have a huge selection of food for just 3 days. Ginger, chilli, garlic, black pepper and fresh herbs specifically basil and coriander and dried mix herbs...also a variety of curry powders (pre mixed usually do have a lot of salt so best to mix your own)is what I am playing with now, and it makes a great difference.
My challenge now is to do something with the carbs, anyone got any good ideas? Wholemeal Pasta, grain bread and genmai rice is good..but after 3 meals a day and many days to go I think I need to do something interesting there.
Nearly finished the second week. Feeling good and getting used to the time and effort needed to prep food. Not missing "drinking" at all, but I've been out of my usual hangouts since last friday, skipping the weekends.
Workout wise I'm pushing through all the sets at full count, and trying to ride out the reps on the last set as much as I can. Now surfing the web to get some more tension bands, think my gear isn't really living up to expectations (plus one snapped the other day so needed to do some re-engineering to get it up and running)
Weighed in tonight, and heading slowly and surely in the right direction. Haven't broken the 90kg mark yet, but I think within a week I will. Targeting 85 as my ideal weight. I'm sure I have lost a few cm's off my waist but ill keep that for my week 2 photo's ill do on Friday.

Day 9-12 - change of scene
Miyako on the rope at 7am. |
So I'm on an island (even smaller than the one I live on)in a great little villa right on the bay with a heap of friends. I came equipped with all the gear that I could carry for my workouts, and some ingredients to help "spice up" the foods I needed to make. Something in the back of my mind was telling me it's going to be a waste of time, due to past experiences when I take my workout gear on holidays...the villa has a kitchen, and everything I need to not make any excuses, there is a local store just down the road... And no restaurants anywhere nearby.
It's now the eve of me returning, and the meal we are cooking up tonight (although I made sure no one put any salt or dressing on the food)looks like the best I have had since we started on day 8.
Given the circumstances, I've managed to socialize with the friends in their post triathlon drinking expeditions, keep to my food diet, do all my workouts and fit in 2 days of diving as well. While it all sounds to plan, I did take a couple of glasses of red wine over the last 4 nights, avoiding beer completely!...partial success!
I am getting SO sick of veggies in the morning and lunch. Gotta work something out here, this is enough to drive me to the dark side, but getting adventurous and creative. Food and eating good food is a major part of my life I want to keep.
Will be interesting to weigh in tomorrow, see how things are progressing. Saw a photo of me sitting about with my shirt off and it continues to drive me harder to stick with the plan, while not locking myself in prison. A good warm up for next Monday where I go camping on even even a smaller island... That's going to be a test!
Decided to post my dinner up, advice to anyone, fresh coriander is great to add flavor to salads or veggies. I'll be getting lot more of that!!

Day 8 - wasnt expecting that!
Today was a bit of a mess. Had managed to get each days work out done in the morning, have breakfast and head off to work waking up about 6-6:30. Woke up to Charlie's mail, and checked my mission for the day... besides the time it took me to read it, there was no way I could get everything in before work. Chose to go for the diet and get that right, and do the work out after. Didn't have time to prep lunch, swung by the shops to grab a bunch of fruit, did what I could for lunch...it was hard to get the balance suggested for me, so that's one thing I need to sort out before leaving the house in the future.
Anyway, with bit of a cricket match arranged in the evening, and still no exercises done...it was already 9:30 when I got home...no work was completed. On the positive side, it was friday night, I went home and had a tea instead of the usual 5 pints of Guinness and other concoctions, and got my right amount of food in...that was a win for me.
Been a busy week, got a lot done, and mostly stuck to the plan. The challenge now is the next 2 weeks. I'm going to be away from home for most of it, and away from the comforts of what have become my "home gym"... need to get creative, think it will be very important for the base fitness needed to keep up.
In general until yesterday evening have been feeling good. Not sure if it was a sugar rush from an apple I ate but had a period of a couple of hours where I felt little weird. Maybe it was the realization I would be spending the next 4 days diving. Didn't have to arrange a thing, little spoiled it just snuck up on me , but hadn't actually thought about it until I tried to wrap up my open items at work and set my out of office.
Time to pack!

Day 7 - My last supper?
OK, I let go tonight, but was after a good 2 hour workout playing futsal. We had a work function and I drove with the intention of driving home...I lasted a good 5 minutes until someone ordered a beer and pushed it to me across the table. What do I do? Just finished 2 hours of running.
One good thing is I managed to get home before 12:00. If we are talking about halving everything...I halved the amount of time I spent drinking and eating tonight. Its no excuse, its just a positive way of explaining the guilt I feel.
I am going to finish this, and I am going to change the way things exist now...and I am going to make sure its done to the best of my ability. If I like something, and I enjoy it, I will get it done. If it bores me and feels like a drag, it will be hard and wont be from the heart. So far, the later it is not!

Day 6 - what a work out
Had a really busy schedule today with an early start to put the work out off until mid afternoon. Today was testing for the work out. I am not sore these days, but do feel it especially in my legs and stomach when I need to use those muscle groups a bit like squatting down or standing up from a sitting position, or picking something up.
Food wise I am not eating much, but energy wise able to keep up through the day.
My chin up bar arrived today, its now installed and performing as expected....for a chin up bar! I had to go with a tension bar type, it hold my weight fine (wouldn't swing crazy off it), but controlled chin up etc should do the job just fine. If I physically was able to do just 1 chin up I would have given it a try!
Off to dinner tonight, eating out. First time since I started PCP...see how I go!
Breakfast - tomato soup with 1 slice of toast spread with hommus, apple juice and cup of team.
Lunch - didnt really have lunch just picked when I got home about 2pm. Found a cold pork fillet, some cold chicken, and then some sliced toasted baguette with hommus spread on top.
Interested to see what next weeks exercises are. I am going to be away from home for 5 days, so will see how "portable" my gear is so I can try and keep up. funny enough I am going to support some mates doing a full triathlon, but it sound like that's just 1 day...the plan for the rest of the days is catching up on the drinking they missed out on while in training. Ill keep myself busy diving etc as a diversion from those well loved breakfast beers...that's the downward spiral that got me to this in the first place.

Day 5 - what the *#&$!!!
Energy seems to be gone. After going from 2-3 sets of skips without fail couldn't manage to get 10 down until about set 3. Not sure what it was but was almost hitting my knees with the rope...
Then the push ups...while I got through them not sure if my form was letting me down but towards the end where I was straining to finish the set I suppose I put a little too much outward force rather than up and down force and the push up bar went for a walk...I did too...almost face first onto the wooden floor!...plus a gash in the yoga mat...hmmmm. Anyway, exercise done - survived this round. Now a day of study....think that will be more painful overall, something else my body isn't too used too! No wonder people get "older quicker"...less exercise and not straining the brain...Im sure a combination of that will keep you young (at least feeling it!)
Really hoping the scales tell me something good on friday...that will get me going and realizing that the work is going to a good cause (mental more than anything!)

Day 4 - slipped that one in ...
After a late night internet shopping for pull up bar (unfortunately my doors in my house are not normal...so some wood working skills will be required - apologies up front to the land-lord) woke up at 6:30 and straight into the exercises. Noticed the dreaded push-ups I can knock out a LOT easier already. Was and has been my weakest strength for a long time. Finished up in a good 20 minutes, punishing my self on the skipping. When I stopped I would drop 10 from my count. Thankfully didn't stop too many times. All finished...then I looked at tomorrows plan...realized there were sets of 4 involved, then went back to today's plan and notice 4 sets of push ups!! Ooops....down for another 8!
Overall feeling good, still sore though! Found it keeps me thinking about the project, every time I move!
Given the blog link to my parents to watch their "sumo son" as my dad called me knock this thing out!...
Breakfast: 3 thin slices of baguette with some dipping oil, onion / potato soup with chicken mince ball(small bowl)
Lunch: small mentaiko pasta, small salad leaf and fruit, and small slice of cheese cake and small serving of fresh fruits.
Dinner: pork cutlet, salad, small cut of cold "chicken ham"
If it seems like I have been eating the same food day after day...lately I have. I have a lady who does cooking classes in my house when im at work. We call it even and she leaves me really nice meals in return for using my house. Her class focuses of food for health, so its always fresh and healthy (even the cheese cake) So as much as I like cooking, I don't often need to when she cooks 3 times a week and leave enough food for 2-3 meals. Unfortunately she only changes her class menu once a month....and I am getting sick of pasta as great as it tastes, and I feel really guilty leaving cheese cake as she added this to her course at my request, and we are working to master the taste to how I like it...getting there!
Felt great today, muscle aches are going...looking forward to the next morning challenge, and Charlies morning message. Think Ill do a weigh in on Friday morning. Have new bathroom scales and as I thought there is a variation of about 2kg between my old once and these ones....unfortunately the old ones had me 2kg lighter. Better to find out now rather than later!

Day 3 - Feeling it
Funny enough the diet isn't really bothering me, im sure it might down the track if we start to limit the types of food we eat.
Ended up having a few wines and beers...and cocktails last night. Still was only half what I normally would on a Saturday night, but think with less in my stomach it went straight to head, and was feeling it this morning. Not enough to stop me from doing my exercises, but it somewhat helped in taking the focus off the pain my muscles were in. Who would have thought after doing some reasonable cardio and core strengthening work out over the last 4 months (with exception of the last 1 month) this 15 minute workout at home would have me feeling it like this. No pain no gain. Just wondering how much pain there is to come! Bring it on!
Anyone got any idea on where to get or a good alternate to a pull up bar? I am in Japan (but not Tokyo...so little limited) Looking at the park across the road seeing if there is anything I can use there...no luck. Haven't been able to do a pull up since I was in my teens! And im sure there is an extra 15kg attached to me now!
Breakfast: salad wrap, small bowl broccoli soup.
Lunch: small mentaiko pasta with broccoli and mini tomato (total 200g)
Dinner: small grilled pork fillet, steamed vegtables (egg plant, aspara (2 sticks), okura (2 pieces), broccoli) braised in oyster sauce, with half serving of genmai rice (with other health stuff in it), small bowl of coriander / chicken stock soup.
...oohhh, and a small slice of home made cheese cake and a glass of red.

Day 2 - Somethings wrong...or right?
Good morning angels...good morning Charlie. (The first thought for the day as I reached over to my phone to see today's mission)
Almost 9am, i'm out of bed (woke up to a growling stomach), its Saturday, no hangover, done my exercise and had breakfast!? While I had to do this anyway as I am running many days short of needed study before an exam on Wednesday, I thought I would have to drag my lazy butt out of bed. Got a charity concert to go to tonight, also a fireworks event ... thinking back, half of everything...half of a LOT is still a lot, just hoping i don't over do it tonight of the drink!
Breakfast was light, although it usually is, find it hard to half very little.
- small bowl of onion an potato soup with a few small mince chicken balls.
- couple of thin slices of french bread
- a strawberry and a small orange
...washed down with a cup of tea (edit: was just reminded a small piece of cheese cake as well)
Lunch was somen chanpuru and a mouthful of okinawa soba, with about a cup of the soup.
Dinner was cous-cous, and tajin cooked mixed veggies, some broccoli and potato soup (all fairly small portions)...and a couple of couple of glasses of red... :/
Little scared of the exercises, first week is meant to be easy, but knocking those out in 15 minutes definitely woke me up!
Noticed looking at my photos I have a really crooked and unbalanced spine/body (and a really bad complexion...apart from my arms which i really radiated a few weeks back) Might have to see if that can be adjusted!
Off to search for a pull up bar! ... might have to try and get on base and see what they have there!

Day 1 - Before Pics!
Even before I did my workout today I think I wanted to blog in case my thoughts changed afterward. All geared up with a rope, even a camera tripod to make this as easy as possible. As embarrassing as it may be I'm posting up before pics..hoping it will shame me into following through with this project (and experiencing what those at the beach have to look at as well!) ... 90 days...here we GO! Have a laugh while you can!! ;) ... hope everything goes down from here!
